I’M NOT A SALESMAN SO I DON’T NEED TRAINING

Salesman

There is a common statement that we often hear from many different people and that is “I’m not in sales”. When T.V shows and movies depict salesman as con-artists, manipulators, and greasy haired, shiny shoe door knockers, it is no wonder people do not like to consider themselves “In sales”.

The reality is, however, quite different. Personally, I started my working life as a tradesman, I have owned businesses, run a charity and worked in a corporate company. I have also been married 15 years this year and have two children. The one common characteristic required in every part of my journey to date is that I have had to be a salesman. I have sold product, services, and ideas, and on a daily basis, I have decided to wake up and be an influencer.

Unleashing the Power of Selling

We are all born to sell, whether it is a product, solution, service or just an idea. It can be something as simple as making a new friend or applying for a new job, every day we sell ourselves. – Daniel Pink

Once we understand that selling is not about the art of deception or having “the gift of the gab” we can see that it is a natural trait/skill we are born with, and like all other skills, this means it can be developed, honed and perfected.

Over the years I have spent many hours (off and on) in the gym. What I have learned is that when I go to the gym with a goal in mind, and I set a plan to follow, I manage to achieve the results I desired. Imagine what it would be like to go to the gym every day expecting to sculpt a muscular body, but only ever working your biceps. There is a reason we do repetitive tasks, at set times, and there is also a reason that when you train with a coach or instructor you are more motivated to achieve results.

Join Attain NZ for Effective Sales Strategies and Personal Growth

This is the very reason why I have chosen to be part of the Attain NZ team. Helping talented people whether they are; business owners, Sales Managers or Salespeople understand that salesman is a systematic approach that is simple and can be developed and improved to achieve the desired results is the most satisfying feeling. Experiencing the “a-ha” moment with someone who has never seen themselves as a salesman, or the moment an experienced salesman sees the one exercise they had missed or forgotten that will shorten their sales cycle and help them achieve their targets is a very rewarding role.

If you are looking for a system that works (I have used the Attain system personally for the last decade) or are just wanting to refresh your selling skills, get in touch with me today, I’d love to help you achieve the results you are after.

Sales Skills Are Universal

Underneath that title, you might be surprised to find that the skills associated with sales are highly transferable. Whether you’re a small business owner, a freelancer, a consultant, or even a teacher, having effective communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills can be game-changers. Salesman training can equip you with the tools you need to confidently present ideas, influence decisions, and close deals, regardless of your job title.

Building Strong Relationships

The foundation of salesman lies in building relationships. Developing rapport, active listening, and empathizing with customers are skills that can benefit anyone in any field. By undergoing sales training, you’ll learn techniques to foster stronger connections, create trust, and understand your customers’ needs. These abilities can enhance your professional and personal relationships, leading to greater success in all areas of life.

Overcoming Objections

Nobody likes hearing the word “no.” However, objections are a part of life, both in personal and professional situations. Salesman training equips you with strategies to address objections effectively. Whether you’re convincing a client, negotiating with a supplier, or simply trying to persuade your spouse on a weekend getaway, the ability to handle objections can significantly boost your chances of achieving your desired outcomes.

Boosting Confidence

Salesman training isn’t just about learning techniques; it’s also about building self-confidence. Through role-playing, practice scenarios, and feedback, sales training helps you develop a strong sense of self-assurance. This newfound confidence will shine through in your interactions with others, making you a more persuasive and influential individual, regardless of your job function.

Conclusion

So, the next time you catch yourself saying, “I’m not a salesman, so I don’t need training,” think again. Sales skills are universal and applicable to numerous aspects of life. By investing in sales training, you’ll equip yourself with invaluable tools to enhance your communication, relationship-building, and persuasion abilities. So, why limit your potential? Embrace the power of sales training, and watch your personal and professional success soar to new heights.
